As Artificial Intelligence becomes more pervasive, concerns about the ethics of AI applications become more urgent. How do we separate opportunities from threats of an emerging technology? What are the values that drive AI development and applications? Shall someone define ethical standards and protocols for AI? Who is responsible when AI makes a “wrong” decision?


Plan to hear what business leaders in the technology industry as well as DU researchers are doing with AI and how they think about related ethical challenges.

Orderly Health

Kevin Krauth is the CEO and co-founder of Orderly Health, a digital health startup that has developed a software that leverages machine learning and AI to improve the accuracy of doctor directory data health insurers. Kevin started his career in investment banking before migrating to the tech industry in San Francisco, where he acted as a product manager at a SaaS analytics company for clients like Ignite Health and Kaiser Permanente. He majored in Public Policy and Economics with a focus on healthcare policy at Duke University.

Sumana (Suma) Nallapati is an accomplished technology leader and consultant with more than twenty years of progressive experience in establishing and executing value driven global IT service strategy and delivery. She has extensive experience with leading technology-driven innovation for business transformation, health care infrastructure operations, and global enterprise business applications.  Suma recently joined DISH as Chief Digital Officer where she leads application delivery and digital strategy implementation. Her technology portfolio includes sales, e-commerce, customer and partner management, billing and other various operational support systems. She earned a master’s degree in nuclear physics from the Andhra University India, a Professional Management certification from Mountain States Employers Council and a Project Management certificate from the Project Management Institute.

Lockheed Martin Space Systems

Josh Reitsema is responsible for the investment strategy for Lockheed Martin Space’s Special Programs, one of Lockheed Martin’s largest lines of business comprising of more than 2,000 employees.  His key investments are focused on national security space system developments.  Josh earned a bachelor's degree in both Electrical and Computer Engineering and Physics from the University of Colorado and a masters degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Denver.  A roboticist at heart, his career has taken him from participating in DARPA’s self-driving vehicle challenges, to designing robotic moon bases, conceptualizing how to service satellites on-orbit, to researching advanced satellite mission concepts.  His driving focus has been implementing AI across Space platforms.

Valyant AI

Rob is the CEO of Valyant AI; the world’s first face to face, customer service AI that looks and feels like you’re talking to a real person. He is also the Chairman of AppIt Ventures, a custom software development company with offices in three countries. Rob has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Enterprise Technology Management. He spent two years on the board for the Rutt Bridges Venture Capital Fund and in 2013 was named one of the top 25 most influential young professionals in Colorado by ColoradoBiz Magazine and in 2016 he received the Denver Trailblazer award.

Tamara Chuang has spent the better part of the last two decades covering technology and business news primarily for The Denver Post and The Orange County Register. Prior to that, she earned her journalism chops at bureaus of The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Dallas Morning News. But as the newspaper industry changed and the decline in traditional newsrooms seemed inevitable, Tamara jumped at the chance to start The Colorado Sun in hopes of figuring out how to create a sustainable news business and provide valued stories for the local community. The Colorado Sun is journalist owned and relies on member and community support.
